“The Civil Protection says yes… but with reservations”. This quote, obviously adapted to the occasion in an ironic way, is taken from a famous advert of the 90s. Italy’s Civil Protection has given the organising committee the go-ahead to organise the 38th edition of the Skiri Trophy XCountry, but with reservations due to the current situation. In fact, the anti-Covid protocols impose to held the competitions behind closed doors, and this year spectators will inevitably have to enjoy the cross-country show from home. The competitions are scheduled to be held in Val di Fiemme on 23 and 24 January. The events – dedicated to young cross-country skiers – will be live-streamed online.
Snow fell in abundance over the last few days in Val di Fiemme. The competitions will take place in the Cross-Country Stadium in Lago di Tesero, but there will be fewer events than in the past due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ragazzi U14 will compete on Saturday (4km for the female athletes and 5km for the male athletes), while the Allievi U16 will challenge on Sunday (5km for the female athletes and 7km for the male athletes). The awards ceremonies will take place on the race course immediately after the races.
Unfortunately, for the 38th edition of the Skiri Trophy there won’t be the Baby, Cuccioli and 'Revival' events as a result of the regulations introduced by the Italian Winter Sports Federation. In any case, the show is guaranteed to thrill everyone. The organising committee invites everyone to respect the rules in order to ensure the health and wellbeing of all participants. First of all, they – albeit reluctantly – ask the fans not to reach the Cross-Country Stadium to watch the event live.
The saying “Never change a winning team” perfectly epitomises the collaboration between Skiri Trophy and Kinder. The Ferrero Group has in fact confirmed the “Kinder Joy of Moving” project dedicated to children in order to foster physical activity from an early age. Everything is almost ready to ensure that the competitions take place in an atmosphere of safety during the two days of racing in Val di Fiemme.
“It will be a different, but special Skiri Trophy,” stated a proud Nicoletta Nones, coordinator of the Skiri Trophy XCountry. “It will be a symbol of resilience and hope in a difficult year for everyone, which has taught us to find the beauty in the small things, from living day by day to rejoicing at the old, beloved normal”.
